QTBIPOC artists and cultural workers know that when governmental systems fail us, it’s our responsibility to create our own spaces of care and sanctuary. Join us at HERE for Inaugurate Care, a series of gatherings over the course of two weeks following the presidential inauguration. Inaugurate Care will offer resources to our home communities and leverage art-making and collective action to redirect resources towards vulnerable groups around the country. These gatherings will bring together civic and artistic practice, and unite a group of partner organizations from across New York City and beyond.
Ten Toes Theater Collective is a collaborative group of trans theatre artists producing community events through new play readings. It supports grassroots organizations across the thirty one states with proposed anti-trans legislation. This collective has ten toes planted firmly on the earth to further the livelihood and well-being of trans folks across state lines. Join us for a reading of Ten Toes Theater Collective’s Gross!
In a small Louisiana mobile home park, best friends Wren and Lylah play games of chicken, hide in the trees, and share scary stories about Mae, a reclusive widow who only leaves her house to take out the trash. But when a Star crash-lands on their dead-end street in search of a lost love, the lives of Wren, Lylah, Mae, and the Star are thrown together unexpectedly. As Mae takes in the Star, Wren and Lylah find their evolving relationship strained, confronting what it means to grow up and navigate new feelings for the first time. Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, sparking an exploration of identity, friendship, gender, sexuality, beauty, and the weight of expectations. Gross! explores the beauty and cruelty of nature and the ways we struggle to be seen and understood, ultimately asking what parts of ourselves we’re willing to sacrifice for love.
Event will be livestreamed with support from HowlRound, stay tuned for the link!
