\u201cI think I felt lost for a while,\u201d she said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know that I was going to come back. And then I came back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI came back as Betty, and I\u2019ve been able to work as Betty ever since,\u201d she continued. \u201cI was defined by myself and that was really something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid Soskin said working for the park service \u201cwas probably the best thing I ever did. I felt as if I were meant to be here, and I was doing exactly as I was intended to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

West Contra Costa Unified School District Superintendent Cheryl Cotton said she had the opportunity to see Reid Soskin at work as a park ranger when she and her son visited the Rosie the Riveter park as part of a school group.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t imagine how many lives she\u2019s touched and really inspired,\u201d Cotton said. \u201cI think that the world needs to know that great things come from Richmond. Great things come from our communities \u2014 and she is one of the greatest.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s Reid Soskin\u2019s music<\/a> and songwriting that inspires eighth grader Farahzareh Parvar, who plays the flute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do music myself, and I think I just look up to her,\u201d Parvar said. Reid Soskin used her music to reflect on her life and her generation\u2019s fight for civil liberties, but kept her songs private for nearly a half-century.<\/p>\n

Reid Soskin said if today\u2019s students take anything from her life\u2019s story, it\u2019s to keep pushing themselves and others forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that they continue to ask questions, and that they never settle for the answers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
