Long live the extended-range Ram 1500 REV (once called the Ramcharger). <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, said Friday that it will no longer develop a battery-electric full-size pickup. The company cited low demand for full-size battery-electric trucks as the primary reason, according to a statement sent to TechCrunch and <a href=\"https:\/\/media.stellantisnorthamerica.com\/newsrelease.do?id=27063&amp;mid=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">posted on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,\u201d the company\u2019s statement reads. \u201cAs part of this, Ram is renaming its REEV-powered pickup to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.stellantisnorthamerica.com\/newsroom.do?id=558&amp;mid=1520\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ram 1500 REV<\/a>\u00a0(formerly Ramcharger). This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability and payload performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the name swap is confusing, it\u2019s because it is. But here is what\u2019s worth knowing. Stellantis canceled plans to develop a battery electric pickup and will instead pursue an extended-range truck that gets an estimated 690 miles of range through a novel \u2014 but not unheard of \u2014 approach of combining a battery with a gas generator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ram 1500 all-electric pickup was part of parent company Stellantis\u2019 U.S. product offensive to sell more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/03\/01\/how-stellantis-plans-to-double-revenue-electrify-lineup-by-2030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">25 all-new BEVs<\/a>\u00a0by the end of the decade. But its future has been in question for months now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a splashy reveal at <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/01\/08\/all-the-tech-and-other-features-stuffed-into-the-all-electric-ram-1500-revolution\/\">CES 2023<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/04\/05\/the-2025-all-electric-ram-1500-rev-has-an-absolutely-massive-battery\/\">other showcases<\/a> in the months that followed, Stellantis wavered on its EV truck plans. Stellantis initially said it would begin producing the vehicle in 2024. That date soon slipped to 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of 2024, Stellantis delayed plans to develop the broad-shouldered pickup loaded with tech, a longer cabin with third-row jump seats, and two massive and industry-busting battery pack options.
