This past week, Anton\u2019s 13-year-old second cousin, Jimmy<\/a>, came from England to visit Brooklyn. It was Jimmy\u2019s first time in the U.S., and we were all beyond excited. This morning, Anton and I were reminiscing, and we thought we\u2019d share photos\u2026<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

Jimmy lives in a small seaside town in England, and Anton<\/a> told me: \u201cWe were joking around, like, \u2018Do you have cars in England? Do you have scooters in England? Do you have light in England? Do you have color in England?\u2019 It was really funny. And sometimes when Jimmy would make a joke, we would be like, \u2018Is that funny in England?\u2019 But his jokes were actually really funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

Jimmy asked to see a few sights, and we were happy to oblige. \u201cCan we go to the Louis Vuitton store<\/a> that looks like suitcases?\u201d he asked. I didn\u2019t even know this existed, but when we headed to 57th Street, there it was!<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

We took him to the American Museum of Natural History<\/a>, one of our long-time favorite places\u2026<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

\u2026and to see Times Square at night, where Jimmy did a back flip for a crowd. \u201cHe taught himself to do flips in his backyard when he was six,\u201d Anton told me. \u201cHe just fully went for it because he didn\u2019t know the consequences were that he could get his neck snapped!\u201d<\/p>\n

The boys also begged me to take them to the Chelsea Piers driving range<\/a>. They hit balls while I did the New Yorker crossword puzzle. \u201cJimmy told me he wants to ride in a yellow school bus,\u201d Anton told me. \u201cHe\u2019s never done that.\u201d<\/p>\n

We also just mucked around at home\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and in the neighborhood. \u201cWhen we were walking down the street, Jimmy was like, \u2018Look at that, look at that,\u2019 because there were so many different kinds of foods \u2014 Japanese, Lebanese, Thai, Italian, Vietnamese, French, Chinese, Indian, Ethiopian\u2026\u201d said Anton. \u201cHe also loved 16 Handles<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\"Saturn<\/p>\n

At the end of the week, Toby<\/a> and my mom<\/a> joined us, and we went to a neighborhood caf\u00e9 for coffee and magic tricks with cards. Jimmy showed us some cool ones, and I busted out my old favorite<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

Finally, on Sunday, my brother and Jimmy headed back to England<\/a>, and, honestly, we all felt really sad. It\u2019s hard to live an ocean away from loved ones, as I\u2019m sure many of you experience, as well. But we\u2019re so lucky to be able to keep in touch. When my maternal grandmother<\/a> moved from Manchester, England, to Chicago with her new soldier husband<\/a>, she could only exchange letters with her parents, until they visited many years later. Where do your relatives live? Are you close by? Half a world apart? How do you stay in touch? I\u2019d love to hear. I know there are pros and cons to every arrangement. xoxo<\/p>\n
