{"id":98605,"date":"2025-08-25T08:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T08:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/25\/madeline-kenney-scoop-kqed\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T08:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T08:34:09","slug":"madeline-kenney-scoop-kqed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/25\/madeline-kenney-scoop-kqed\/","title":{"rendered":"Madeline Kenney: &#8216;Scoop&#8217; | KQED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqed.org\/sundaymusicdrop\">The Sunday Music Drop is a weekly radio series hosted by the KQED weekend news team.<\/a> In each segment, we feature a song from a local musician or band with an upcoming show and hear about what inspires their music.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Madeline Kenney had a distinct image in mind when creating her fifth record <em>Kiss From the Balcony<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a vision when I was putting this album together,\u201d said the Oakland-based artist. \u201cThis Joan of Arc archetype of a valiant female soldier, but in combination with roller skating and being fun and ditzy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sonically as well, Kenney is drawn to exploring these kinds of thoughtful, playful contrasts. Kenney, who cites Arthur Russell and Jenny Hval as inspirations, stretches a pop music sensibility into the avant garde and art rock realms.<\/p>\n<p>And on <em>Kiss From the Balcony<\/em>, she decided to try out something extra new.
