{"id":98439,"date":"2025-08-21T08:29:59","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T08:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/21\/kaiser-to-lay-off-nearly-25-of-outpatient-nurses-in-san-rafael\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T08:29:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T08:29:59","slug":"kaiser-to-lay-off-nearly-25-of-outpatient-nurses-in-san-rafael","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/21\/kaiser-to-lay-off-nearly-25-of-outpatient-nurses-in-san-rafael\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaiser to Lay Off Nearly 25% of Outpatient Nurses in San Rafael"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cTo match staffing and care needs, we are rebalancing resources,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Nurses pointed to Kaiser\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/about.kaiserpermanente.org\/news\/press-release-archive\/kaiser-foundation-health-plan-hospitals-risant-health-report-2024-financial-results\">net income in 2024<\/a>, arguing the company\u2019s justification for the cuts doesn\u2019t hold up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely unacceptable that Kaiser made $13 billion last year, yet is cutting staff,\u201d Colleen Gibbons, a medical-surgical nurse at Kaiser San Rafael and the chief nurse representative, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>CNA received notice of the proposed layoffs at the end of June, and they are set to take effect Oct. 14.<\/p>\n<p>For the nurses left after the layoffs take effect, the workload will only grow, Cronin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work doesn\u2019t go away just because the nurses go away,\u201d Cronin said. \u201cThere\u2019s still these patients that paid for access to quality medical care \u2026 and the nurses will continue to try to provide it despite how Kaiser continues to tie our hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forty-two workers in San Rafael were initially slated for layoffs, but negotiations with CNA spared a position, reducing the total to 41.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiser said the number of total affected positions may change as bargaining with the union continues.<\/p>\n<p>The company pointed to 400 open nursing positions across Kaiser locations in Northern California, saying it wants to \u201chelp transition impacted employees to available inpatient positions that are closest to where they live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nurses plan to picket the layoffs on Thursday outside Kaiser\u2019s downtown San Rafael clinic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.kqed.org\/news\/2025\/08\/20\/kaiser-to-lay-off-nearly-25-of-outpatient-nurses-in-san-rafael\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cTo match staffing and care needs, we are rebalancing resources,\u201d the company said.
