OpenAI announced late Friday that it\u2019s updating its latest model to be \u201cwarmer and friendlier.\u201d<\/p>\n
The company recently launched the much-anticipated GPT-5<\/a> in a process that CEO Sam Altman admitted<\/a> was \u201ca little more bumpy than we\u2019d hoped for,\u201d with some users complaining that they preferred the previous model, GPT-4o.<\/p>\n OpenAI is trying to address some of those complaints with this update, with changes that it says are \u201csubtle\u201d but will make GPT-5 \u201cmore approachable now.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019ll notice small, genuine touches like \u2018Good question\u2019 or \u2018Great start,\u2019 not flattery,\u201d the company wrote in a social media post<\/a>. \u201cInternal tests show no rise in sycophancy compared to the previous GPT-5 personality.\u201c<\/p>\n At a dinner this week with journalists, OpenAI executives tried to focus on the company\u2019s plans beyond GPT-5, but as Max Zeff reports, the rocky launch was the elephant in the room<\/a>. As far as model friendliness goes, VP Nick Turley said that the GPT-5 was \u201cjust very to the point,\u201d but that the new update would \u2014 as now announced \u2014 make it feel warmer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
