Warning: This article contains spoilers for <\/span><\/em>Happy Gilmore 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One modern woman\u2019s character has been laid to rest.<\/span><\/p>\n In <\/span>Adam Sandler<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s<\/span> <\/strong>celeb-filled sequel to his 1996 classic golf comedy <\/span>Happy Gilmore<\/span><\/em>, one of the movie\u2019s most beloved characters was killed off in a shocking\u2014and immediate\u2014twist to fans.<\/span><\/p>\n The movie, which dropped on Netflix July 25, opens by showing how the eponymous hockey player-turned-golfer\u2019s life had changed since triumphing in the first film and saving his grandmother\u2019s house. In voice over, Happy (Adam) shares how he and Virginia Venit (<\/span>Julie Bowen<\/strong><\/a>) fell even more madly in love, got married and welcomed four sons and a daughter (played by <\/span>Adam\u2019s real-life daughter <\/span>Sunny Sandler<\/strong><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n But as the unorthodox golf pro recapped his success, the movie shows Happy hitting an errant ball that strikes Virginia in the head, killing off Julie\u2019s character. The death leaves Happy as a single dad of five, prompting his retirement from the game of golf.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite her character\u2019s un-<\/span>fore<\/span><\/em>-tunate demise within the first four minutes, Julie does make a few appearances throughout the movie, including in Happy\u2019s \u201chappy place\u201d where she cheekily encourages him to forgive himself for her death.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
