OpenAI has pulled a much-discussed<\/a> video promoting the friendship between CEO Sam Altman and legendary Apple designer Jony Ive (plus, incidentally, OpenAI\u2019s $6.5 billion deal to acquire Ive and Altman\u2019s device startup io<\/a>) from its website<\/a> and YouTube page.<\/p>\n Does that suggest something is amiss with the acquisition, or with plans for Ive to lead design work at OpenAI? Not exactly, according to Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman<\/a>, who reports that the \u201cdeal is on track and has NOT dissolved or anything of the sort.\u201d Instead, he said a judge has issued a restraining order over the io name, forcing the company to pull all materials that used it.<\/p>\n OpenAI subsequently confirmed this is the case, updating the old announcement page<\/a> with the statement, \u201cThis page is temporarily down due to a court order following a trademark complaint from iyO about our use of the name \u2018io.\u2019 We don\u2019t agree with the complaint and are reviewing our options.\u201d<\/p>\n The company said this does not affect the deal with io.<\/p>\n The iyO in question emerged from the Alphabet X \u201cmoonshot factory,\u201d and its first announced product is a set of generative AI-powered earbuds<\/a>. An earlier report at Bloomberg Law noted that iyO had brought a trademark lawsuit against OpenAI<\/a>, with the judge suggesting she\u2019s open to the company\u2019s argument that OpenAI\u2019s promotional video might already be creating consumer confusion.<\/p>\n For now, at least, the video remains viewable on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n
