Mayor Matt Mahan, in a statement, said it\u2019s about time robotaxis came to San Jos\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor decades, our region has shaped the future \u2014 and now, the ride to work is as forward-thinking as the breakthroughs happening at the office,\u201d Mahan said.<\/p>\n

Mahan also posted on the social media platform X<\/a> that Waymo will \u201cfit right in\u201d as the company \u201cembodies our region\u2019s spirit of innovation.\u201d However, it\u2019s unclear when the driverless taxis will arrive in the South Bay.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this won\u2019t change our operations in the near-term, we\u2019re looking forward to bringing the benefits of Waymo One to more of the Bay Area in the future,\u201d Waymo said on X<\/a> on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

A company spokesperson told KQED in an email on Monday that there is no timeline to share.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny expansion of our service will happen methodically over time, and as we grow, we\u2019ll work with local communities, officials, and first responders every step of the way,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
