But Bitcoin? It\u2019s up 62% annually over that same stretch. \u201cIf the cost of capital is the S&amp;P 500 at 14%, Microsoft is outperforming by 4%. Bitcoin is outperforming by 48%,\u201d Saylor emphasized. \u201cBonds, by the way, are down 5%\u2014underperforming by 19%.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/AD_4nXehqL21j8L_IQBjOcZzq21BVuAddlxt8JwlLsypxX5_Dev3qULzPboPGf33ICrub9TX_CAAWSpAEqH66G5KVCTLIJLl_SyXh57jarsT4Jl4cp0fQWqjI6vODTQKR7828UGV_1sjvAkey9tEv0Z77htzliEIs7mxjvA.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"Michael Saylor Explains Why Microsoft Should Buy Bitcoin 1\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>According to Saylor, <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/?s=Buying+Bitcoin\">Bitcoin<\/a> is not just a better-performing asset\u2014it\u2019s a fundamentally different type of asset. \u201cIt\u2019s digital capital,\u201d he said. \u201cEverything digital is better. Digital pictures are better. Digital relationships, digital messages, digital videos. Don\u2019t believe me? Ask Kodak. Ask Polaroid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He compared Bitcoin to a digital building\u2014one that\u2019s invisible, untouchable, and immortal. \u201cEverything you hate about a physical building, that it\u2019s visible and the mayor can rent control it and weather can strike it\u2014everything you hate about it goes away,\u201d he said. \u201cInstead, the building becomes invisible, indestructible, immortal, and teleportable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saylor argued that a company like Microsoft\u2014which built its dominance on digital infrastructure\u2014should now be powered by digital capital. \u201cMicrosoft should be powered by digital capital,\u201d he said plainly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe title=\"Michael Saylor Bitcoin for Corporations 2025 Keynote Speech\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3-vBBYEXv6M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He also pointed to Bitcoin\u2019s unique advantage as an uncorrelated asset. \u201cYou\u2019re going to hold something on your balance sheet that\u2019s not correlated to everything else,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can do stock buybacks, dividend out your cash flow, or you can embrace the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Saylor, that future is clear.
