Last year, Stardew Valley<\/em> received a massive free update<\/a><\/span> because its creator, Eric Barone, didn\u2019t want to stop improving the beloved cozy farming game even eight years after it had launched. But now, he sounds committed to moving on from Stardew Valley<\/em> for a few years while he finishes up his previously announced next game, Haunted Chocolatier.<\/em><\/p>\n

In a new interview with PC Gamer<\/em><\/a><\/span>, Stardew Valley<\/em> creator Eric Barone (known online as ConcernedApe) explained that he really does \u201clove\u201d his hit indie game and wants all of its fans to \u201chave a great experience.\u201d So he\u2019s always \u201cconcerned\u201d about Stardew Valley a<\/em>nd wants to make sure \u201cit\u2019s doing well.\u201d However, he concedes that this has pulled him away from Haunted Chocolatier,<\/em> a game he started development on in 2020 and announced formally in October 2021<\/a><\/span>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think at some point I\u2019m going to have to completely cut off everything else,\u201d Barone told PC Gamer<\/em><\/a><\/span>. \u201c<\/em>Honestly, I\u2019ve thought about, maybe I should just go into a cabin in the woods and completely get off the internet, and just say, \u2018Okay guys, I\u2019ll see you in two years. You won\u2019t hear from me at all and I\u2019m going to finish this game.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

And while he might not actually go live in a cabin in the woods for a few years, he did make it clear that Stardew Valley\u2019<\/em>s 1.6 update<\/a><\/span> is \u201cpretty settled at this point\u201d and most bugs have been squashed or fixed. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m committed to not working on Stardew Valley<\/em> until I\u2019m done with Haunted Chocolatier<\/em>\u2026I think it\u2019s in a good place. I feel very solid about it,\u201d said Barone. \u201cI think if anyone picks up Stardew Valley<\/em><\/a><\/span> for the first time in 2025, I\u2019m very proud of it, and I think they\u2019ll have fun with it if they like this kind of game.\u201d <\/p>\n

As for Haunted Chocolatier<\/em>, Barone says that after working on the game on and off for nearly five years, he\u2019s had to go back and completely \u201credo\u201d parts of it. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s not it\u2019s not like it\u2019s even bad, it\u2019s just\u2014part of the problem of being, like especially a solo dev, is it takes so long to make a game. I\u2019m literally a different person in four years, so it\u2019s like my whole feelings about everything have changed\u2014my aesthetic sensibilities have evolved,\u201d said Barone. <\/p>\n

While people wait for Haunted Chocolatier<\/em>, they can play Stardew Valley <\/em>on basically every platform under the sun, including consoles, mobile devices, and PC. <\/p>\n
