The\u00a0Gossip Girl\u00a0<\/em>alum detailed his experience as a child actor with what he described as “body dysmorphia.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that I hated my body,\u201d Penn told <\/span>The Guardian<\/span><\/em><\/a> <\/span><\/em>in April 2025, \u201cand simply wanted a different one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In response to the weight he gained following his parents’ divorce, he added,\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThere was just a period where, coming out of depression and isolation, I was jumping wilfully into, but also being thrust into, this world where the more conventionally beautiful I seemed, the more successful I might be, the more value I might have.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the mental struggles, though, Penn credited his ability to persist to his spirituality.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat is what allowed me to persevere through the disillusionment, all the things I\u2019d been grappling with,\u201d he explained, \u201cand then come back to it all, but with hopefully some kind of inner transformation.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
