Here, eight women share kind eyes, curvy legs, and strong noses\u2026<\/p>\n Says Rebekah (above), who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, \u201cI feel so glowy in the evening sun, like it\u2019s reflecting something golden in me. I was made to bask.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m so grateful J.Lo hit it big when I was in middle school, because I grew up thinking my big Puerto Rican ass was a thing of beauty. I\u2019ve also found inspiration from fat activists, like Virginia Sole-Smith<\/a> and Aubrey Gordon<\/a>. On my book tour last fall<\/a>, a moderator snapped this photo of me \u2014 round belly, the whole soft, visible package \u2014 and called me \u2018a bright, brilliant light.\u2019 I look at it now and see what she saw: my body not as something that takes up space, but something that offers it.\u201d \u2014 Marian<\/a>, Portland, Oregon<\/p>\n \u201cI love my dimples! They\u2019re pronounced, like someone stuck their fingers into a ball of clay when I was born. My maternal grandmother (\u2018Nana\u2019) also had gorgeous high cheekbones and a wide face. Whenever I look in the mirror, I see her reflection in mine, her bright red lipstick kissing my cheeks, exactly where the divots are.\u201d \u2014 Emma<\/a>, New York City<\/p>\n \u201cIn high school, I walked across the stage to accept my National Honors Society plaque, and my aunt said, appreciatively, \u2018Oooh, look at them big legs!\u2019 At the time, I was mortified. It took me 20 years, but now I understand the compliment. My curvy legs carry the rest of this body beautifully. When it\u2019s even slightly warm, I yell, \u2018Sky\u2019s out, thighs out!\u2019 and put on the shortest shorts I can find.\u201d \u2014 Abby<\/a>, Chicago<\/p>\n \u201cSmall dark moles have been appearing since I hit my thirties; they\u2019re dermatosis papulosa nigra<\/a>, harmless moles common among Black folks. I watched three small stars take their place at the corner of my eye, and I thought, how cool to have a face that\u2019s still changing, a reminder to look up in awe at the night stars that guided our ancestors!\u201d \u2014 Sarah, State College, Pennsylvania<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I smile, my eyes get all squinty and essentially disappear. It\u2019s my undeniable joy! Here, I\u2019m with my kiddo on a plane, and my children celebrating Tashlich by a river during Rosh Hashanah.\u201d \u2014 Jill, Cousins Island, Maine<\/p>\n \u201cMy masi (maternal aunt) was looking at daguerreotypes of Indian women and remarked, \u2018They have such intelligent faces, it\u2019s their strong noses.\u2019 The women in my family have strong noses, too, and I thought that was the finest compliment a woman could receive \u2014 to look intelligent!\u201d \u2014 Sukhie, Seattle<\/p>\n \u201cI love that I look kind. My two-year-old daughter took this photo, above, while we were chatting on the couch. My eyes are focused on her, I\u2019m smiling, and my eyebrows are arched like she\u2019s telling me the most fascinating thing I\u2019ve ever heard. I got so emotional when I saw this photo, because it\u2019s a stark contrast to how my mother looked at me.
