detailed look yet at the administration\u2019s ambitious plans for a U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/the-united-states-officially-establishes-a-strategic-bitcoin-reserve\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/the-united-states-officially-establishes-a-strategic-bitcoin-reserve\">strategic Bitcoin reserve<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I went to the White House to interview <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BoHines?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@BoHines<\/a> about the administration&#8217;s crypto plans.<\/p>\n<p>We talked about the US strategic bitcoin reserve, stablecoins, regulation, how decisions are being made, gold, tariffs, law enforcement, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><template data-nitro-marker-id=\"83b926d767a9ed3e82c910cc56deb9c5-1\"\/><template data-nitro-marker-id=\"372de9843891598aa58675a785cc4349-1\"\/> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The conversation touched on a wide range of policy priorities \u2014 from stablecoin regulation and interagency cooperation to tariffs, law enforcement, and legislative developments \u2014 but a focal point of the conversation was the administration\u2019s intent to aggressively accumulate Bitcoin without increasing the burden on taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have obviously made it very clear that we want to acquire as much as we can get,\u201d Hines told Pompliano. \u201cI\u2019ve said that repeatedly throughout my time on the speaking circuit over the course of the last few months\u2026 it stipulates that we have to acquire bitcoin in budget neutral ways that don\u2019t cost the taxpayer a dime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the most eye-catching proposals involves using revenue from tariffs to fund Bitcoin purchases, which was interesting given the recent global trade war around tariffs and a recent White House economic projection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/04\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security\/#:~:text=A%202024%20economic%20analysis%20found,real%20household%20incomes%20by%205.7%25.\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/04\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security\/#:~:text=A%202024%20economic%20analysis%20found,real%20household%20incomes%20by%205.7%25.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stating<\/a> that \u201ca global tariff of 10% would grow the economy by $728 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that we have, as the President likes to say, \u2018many high IQ people\u2019 working on these solutions,\u201d Hines added. \u201cWe\u2019ll come together and flesh out some of these ideas and really get to the best solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p>Hines also addressed Senator Cynthia Lummis\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/us-senator-and-congressman-introduce-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-bills-to-buy-one-million-btc\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/us-senator-and-congressman-introduce-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-bills-to-buy-one-million-btc\">proposed<\/a> BITCOIN Act of 2025, which calls for the U.S. to acquire 200,000 BTC annually for five years, building a million-bitcoin reserve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Senator Lummis has really an interesting idea with the BITCOIN Act,\u201d said Hines. \u201cHere what you would do is \u2014 you revalue the gold certificates that we currently have at Treasury\u2026 Most of which I think are valued around $43 an ounce\u2026 now we\u2019re sitting at what, $3,100 an ounce\u2026 and if you took that value, what you could do is use that extra funding in order to buy more bitcoin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Hines emphasized, \u201cThere\u2019s literally countless ways in which we can do this\u2026 everything\u2019s on the table, and like we\u2019ve said, we want as much as we can get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the interview, Pompliano published a
