This weekend, Anton<\/a> was sick, so we did lots of calming activities like reading, eating applesauce, and looking through old family photos. As always, I felt inspired by my mom\u2019s style through the years, like these five touches\u2026<\/p>\n

1. Button-down shirts under sweaters. The layering combo just looks good on people, maybe because it frames the face? (In this photo, my mom was newly pregnant<\/a> but didn\u2019t yet know she was having twins.)<\/p>\n

2. A broken-in trench. My mom\u2019s is the classic belted kind<\/a>, but I love this streamlined version<\/a> and pull it on all the time, including over pajamas when walking the boys to school.<\/p>\n

3. Shades of brown<\/a>. Needless to say, people wear lots of black in New York<\/a> \u2014\u00a0the other day, I looked around our neighborhood caf\u00e9 and all 14 people in line were dressed in black \u2014\u00a0but! I love how soft and rich brown feels, especially when layered with other browns. And apparently it\u2019s now cool to mix black and brown, so off we go.<\/p>\n

4. Oversized shirts look effortlessly cool\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026especially when the sleeve is rolled all the way up past the elbow.<\/p>\n

5. Finally, my eyes filled up when I came across this photo of my beloved grandpa. And how cool was his rollneck sweater? I somehow feel touched that my brown baba\u00e0 one<\/a> is somewhat similar to his; we also both loved eating fish, listening to radio news, and watching children play.<\/p>\n

Do you have old photos of relatives? What was their style like? I\u2019d love to hear. Always makes my heart swell.<\/strong><\/p>\n
