Chappell Roan<\/strong><\/a> is starting a Grammys<\/a> collection.<\/p>\n

After all, she was named Best New Artist at the 2025 ceremony, beating out fellow nominees Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong><\/a>, Shaboozey<\/strong><\/a>, Doechii<\/strong>, Benson Boone<\/strong>, Teddy Swims<\/strong>, Raye<\/strong>\u00a0and Khruangbin<\/strong>. While taking the stage at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena for her acceptance speech, the “Pink Pony Club” singer told the crowd at the Trevor Noah<\/strong><\/a>-hosted ceremony the meaning behind her stage.<\/p>\n

“Thank you to my fellow nominees, whose music got me through this past year,” Chappell (real name Kayleigh Amstutz<\/strong><\/a>) began, before giving shoutouts to “my friends and my family, and\u2014above all\u2014my poppa Chappell, who I named myself after.”<\/p>\n

Indeed, Chappell’s stage name is a tribute to her late grandfather Dennis K. Chappell<\/strong>, who died in 2016 after a battle with brain cancer. The second part of the newly-crowned Grammy winner’s onstage persona was inspired by the Curley Fletcher <\/strong>song “The Strawberry Roan,” a favorite of the family patriarch.<\/p>\n

But win or lose, it’s been quite the year for all the nominees in the Best New Artist category. Take Chappell, who was more than just lucky when her single “Good Luck, Babe!” landed in the top spot of Rolling Stone<\/em>, NME<\/em> and The Guardian<\/em>‘s Best Songs of 2024 lists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
