The app that has so far seemed to benefit the most is a Chinese social media app called \u201cRedNote\u201d or Xiaohongshu, which translates to &#8220;<a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/abacus\/who-what\/what\/article\/3028257\/little-red-book-not-maoist-propaganda-its-social-shopping\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:little red book;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">little red book<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The TikTok-like app for shortform video is currently the number one app in Apple\u2019s App Store and is in the 34th spot in Google\u2019s Play Store. RedNote has been gaining popularity as many TikTok creators have begun<a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/search?q=rednote&amp;t=1736808435378\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:posting;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> about their experiences trying out the Chinese app. Meanwhile, over on RedNote, a number of creators have shared videos about welcoming \u201cTikTok refugees\u201d to the service.<\/p>\n<p>The app is set up very much like TikTok, with the ability to vertically scroll through feeds of shortform videos based on your interests. Much of the app\u2019s interface is in Chinese, so it can be a bit confusing to navigate, though there are some <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@ferrethybrid\/video\/7459114263966174507\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:helpful videos;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> on TikTok that explain how to change the app\u2019s language to English.<\/p>\n<p>While RedNote seems to have come out of nowhere, the app has been popular in China for years. Another ByteDance app, Lemon8, is also trending in both Apple and Google\u2019s stores, where it\u2019s in the second and first spot, respectively. But while TikTok itself has at times <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/01\/07\/tiktok-lemon8-ban-sponsored-posts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:boosted the app;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>, Lemon8 will likely face the same fate as TikTok should the Supreme Court side with the Biden Administration, which <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/supreme-court-tiktok-ban-bytedance-china-biden-administration-rcna186971\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:seems likely;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another video app <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/flip.shop\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:called Flip;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>, which describes itself as \u201cwhere social meets shopping,\u201d is also trending in both app stores. The app, from Los Angeles-based Humans, Inc., features shortform videos and an in-app storefront. It\u2019s currently ranked number 14 in Google\u2019s store and number four in Apple\u2019s. The company was valued at more than $1 billion last year, according to <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/news.crunchbase.com\/venture\/unicorn-board-april-2024-ai-web3-e-commerce-xaira\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Crunchbase;cpos:8;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another app that has seemingly benefited from the impending TikTok ban is something called \u201cReelShort.\u201d While the app\u2019s name sounds like a play on Instagram\u2019s reels and YouTube Shorts \u2014 both of which are well established TikTok clones \u2014 the app seems to be less of a TikTok clone and more of a wannabe <a data-i13n=\"cpos:9;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reelshort.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:streaming platform;cpos:9;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>. The app features bite-sized clips of longer \u201cmovies\u201d with bizarre titles like \u201cThe Heiress Blacklisted her Husband\u201d and \u201cIn Love with the Alpha.\u201d ReelShort is number seven in the App Store number two in Google Play.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s unlikely any of these apps will remain popular for long, the fact that so many relatively unknown apps have risen to the top of the app stores so quickly is yet another sign of how influential TikTok\u2019s users and creators can be.
