Apple\u2019s board of directors has come out in opposition to a proposal seeking to end the company\u2019s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a proxy filing<\/a>, the company said the National Center for Public Policy Research (a conservative think tank) is submitting a proposal for Apple to \u201cconsider abolishing its Inclusion & Diversity program, policies, department and goals.\u201d<\/p>\n The think tank\u2019s proposal claims that DEI programs could make companies vulnerable to lawsuits, citing the recent Supreme Court ruling<\/a> against race-based affirmative action in colleges and noting that other companies have eliminated or scaled back similar programs. (Most recently, Meta eliminated its DEI programs<\/a>, and Amazon is reportedly pulling back as well<\/a>.)<\/p>\n Apple, however, said the proposal is \u201cunnecessary\u201d because the company \u201calready has a well-established compliance program\u201d that would presumably keep it out of legal trouble. The filing also criticizes the proposal because it \u201cinappropriately seeks to micromanage the Company\u2019s programs and policies.\u201d<\/p>\n The company also said it strives \u201cto create a culture of belonging where everyone can do their best work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
