According to the Public Gaming Research Institute,<\/a> Deutsche Bank analyst Carlo Santarelli authored a note to investors stating that MGM Resorts<\/strong> is \u201cexploring additional ways to generate revenues through creative strategies, including tiered seating in restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n

This comes as a shift toward digital operations eats into MGM\u2019s revenue from brick-and-mortar casino. MGM already jacked up resort and parking fees<\/a> at all 12 of its Strip properties in December.<\/p>\n

What might tiered restaurant seating look like? Santarelli didn\u2019t elaborate, and MGM won\u2019t comment on his speculation.<\/p>\n

However, tiered restaurant seating is already a thing at some Las Vegas restaurants. For example, \u201cpremium upgrades\u201d are already offered for a window view at the Strat<\/strong>\u2019s Top \u00a0of the World<\/strong> restaurant, and to overlook the Bellagio<\/strong> fountains from the Eiffel Tower<\/strong> at Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>\u2019s Paris Las Vegas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presumably, MGM\u2019s tiered seating would extend to all or most of its restaurants, meaning those without Strip views would have to figure out ways to make some of their tables more desirable than others.<\/p>\n

Oh, and they\u2019re not fees per se,<\/em> but the Bellagio\u2019s Yellowtail<\/strong> and now-shuttered Picasso<\/strong> for years have required a \u201cminimum spend\u201d for guaranteed terrace seating overlooking Bellagio Lake, as does Mizumi<\/strong> for views adjacent to the Wynn<\/strong>\u2019s waterfall.<\/p>\n

Reaction from the socials has been predictably harsh.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is generous that they even call these \u2018strategies,\u2019\u201d wrote redditor @jhussong91. \u201cThe strategy is just to price gouge every way possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPremium standing fee \u2014 extra $15,\u201d sniped redditor @krowofefas.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t bitch if it was just a select few places for very select reasons (i.e.: Bellagio fountain-side table),\u201d added redditor @Muted_Cucumber_6937. \u201cBut I know corporations and they are going to tier the fucking McDonalds if they can.\u201d<\/p>\n
