It\u2019s a new year, and we\u2019re celebrating it with an all-new installment of Chicago PD, which will center Intelligence\u2019s newest member.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve been following our coverage thus far, you already know how much we love Kiana Cook<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She\u2019s breathed new life into the series as Chicago PD has felt like a welcomed soft reboot for the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chicago PD Picks Up with Intelligence in a Precarious Position\u00a0<\/h2>\n

And now, the unit has plenty to contend with after the wild and, at times, heartrending events of Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 8<\/a>, which left the unit in quite a precarious position with the elusive Reid.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their situation isn\u2019t improving with Chicago PD Season 12<\/a> Episode 9.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFriends and Family\u201d will center on Cook when the unit gets pulled into a kidnapping case.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From the synopsis, it appears that the unit will face some \u201croadblocks\u201d during this pressing investigation, and as a result, they\u2019ll have to utilize alternate means to get what they need.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s where Intelligence\u2019s mysterious newbie comes into play.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 9 Places Kiana in the Spotlight<\/h2>\n

We haven\u2019t learned that much about Cook outside of the job. We know that she got demoted to patrol after she got into it with her tactical partner and essentially got iced out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kiana is passionate about her job and wants to genuinely help people and do right by others.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve seen how great and dedicated she is to the job based on how easily and quickly she jumped into action during Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She also partnered well with Torres during Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 5<\/a>. Cook\u2019s undercover work during Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 7<\/a> was notable.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cook has proven to be a force, but we know little about her life outside of the job, and the midseason premiere promises to rectify that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We cannot be more excited about this!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cook\u2019s Family is Instrumental in Assisting with a Kidnapping Case<\/h2>\n

With Cook seeking her family\u2019s assistance, could they be law enforcement, too? It\u2019s also possible they\u2019re on the other side of the law or in a gray area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Intelligence understands the community and fosters ties, resulting in success.<\/p>\n

Whatever the case, this episode would put us squarely within Cook\u2019s personal by introducing us to her family.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a promising development for her character. Many characters didn\u2019t get this peek into their outside world until later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stepping into Cook\u2019s world outside beyond the unit means we get more layers to this fan-favorite compelling character<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll also help us understand her and how she interacts with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Will Cook and Torres\u2019 Parnership Face Obstacles After Gloria?<\/h2>\n

After that finale, the Gloria debacle strained Torres and Cook\u2019s relationship. His desire to cover his tracks with Gloria and prevent himself and Burgess from getting into trouble because of his affair nearly cost Kiana her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They shared mutual understanding and instant respect, and Torres\u2019 deception may challenge that moving forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A peek into Kiana\u2019s personal life may help the partners rebuild trust.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For both characters, understanding the other person solidifies a bond.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it\u2019ll also be great if the hour switches things up with Kiana interacting with other characters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Voight has been impressed with her, but we haven\u2019t seen the two spend that much time one-on-one. Kiana\u2019s family may be critical in helping them out, which could mean we\u2019ll get some Kiana and Voight screentime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Chief Reid Poses a Threat to Intelligence<\/h2>\n

What\u2019s interesting is learning that Intelligence will face roadblocks, and that wreaks of Chief Reid inserting himself into the mix.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The biggest cliffhanger was that Reid knew what happened with Torres and that the team covered for him, and he\u2019s using that information as leverage to be Voight\u2019s \u201cfriend.\u201d<\/p>\n

But we don\u2019t know what that \u201cfriendship\u201d will entail.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reid\u2019s motivations are unclear, but worse yet, we still don\u2019t know how he came across all of this information, and that\u2019s more concerning than anything else.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Is the office bugged? Is there a mole somewhere?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reid already came across as sketchy regarding Burgess and her promotion, and now he\u2019s using Torres\u2019 actions to keep Voight and the Intelligence unit under his thumb.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reid\u2019s Motivations and Methods Remain a Mystery<\/h2>\n

But we don\u2019t know what he wants or plans for them. Voight doesn\u2019t like to have anyone controlling him, so is it safe to say that Reid is exercising his power to make Voight submit?<\/p>\n

Reid may not be behind the roadblocks during this investigation, but it\u2019s hard to shake the theory, given how much of a mysterious wild card he is.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reid appears in a couple of images, including with the entire team, so if he isn\u2019t an obstacle for them, he\u2019s active in the case in some other way.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fortunately, it\u2019s an all-hands-on-deck situation, as we see the entire team in spoiler images. So we can be thrilled that the midseason premiere doesn\u2019t bench anyone.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unofficially, It\u2019s Kim Burgess\u2019s Season!<\/h2>\n

We also see a lot of Burgess donning red again (it\u2019s becoming her signature color), and she\u2019s definitely giving off the vibes of being Voight\u2019s \u201csecond.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Detective Burgess is still thriving in the new position, and that\u2019s exciting to see all on its own!\u00a0<\/p>\n

With a kidnapping, possible tension, a shady Reid, and a deep dive into Kiana, the midseason premiere sounds like an action-packed, plot-heavy, and thoroughly entertaining affair!\u00a0<\/p>\n
