He earned three All-Star selections, was a member of the team&#8217;s first trip to the NBA Finals in 1976 and retired as the franchise&#8217;s all-time leading scorer in 1977. Beloved throughout the Suns organization and fanbase, Van Arsdale held several positions with the team, including broadcaster and front office executive, following his 12-year NBA career.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-7\">\n<p>An Indianapolis native, the 6-foot-5 Van Arsdale played collegiately at Indiana alongside his brother. Dick was selected No. 13 overall in the 1965 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, with the Detroit Pistons taking Tom one pick later.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-8\">\n<p>Dick Van Arsdale was an All-Star in each of his first three seasons in Phoenix, averaging at least 21 points in each campaign.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-9\">\n<p>He played in 921 career games and retired with averages of 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-10\">\n<p>The brothers later opened an art studio in suburban Scottsdale.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-11\">\n<p>&#8211;Field Level Media<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/deadspin.com\/original-sun-dick-van-arsdale-dies-at-81\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A portrait of Dick Van Arsdale on Oct. 3, 2018, in his Scottsdale art studio in Scottsdale, Arizona.
