On Landman, Jacob Lofland<\/a>\u2019s Cooper has quickly become a character audiences are rooting for \u2014 a young man determined to carve out a place for himself in a harsh and dangerous world.<\/p>\n

Landman Season 1 Episode 5<\/a>, \u201cWhere Is Home,\u201d pushed Cooper to his limits yet again as he navigated a budding relationship with Ariana, endured another beating at the hands of her cousins, and faced an awkward reunion with his mother, Angela.<\/p>\n

Jacob Lofland shared his thoughts on Cooper\u2019s journey so far, what drives the character forward, and what we can expect from the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Where\u2019s Cooper\u2019s Head At?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heading into Episode 5, Cooper\u2019s life is a whirlwind of challenges. <\/p>\n

Jacob shared, \u201cI don\u2019t know if he knows where his head\u2019s at ever, really. He\u2019s still got this one goal in mind, and that is to make his way as high as he can in this business\u2026 and to one day own his own [company].\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the chaos, Cooper remains focused on proving himself. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows he has to do every aspect [of the job],\u201d Jacob added. \u201cHe\u2019s trying to figure it out, but at the end of [Episode 5], there\u2019s definitely going to have to be some path change from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helping Ariana \u2014 And Himself<\/strong><\/p>\n

A big part of the episode focuses on Cooper stepping in to help Ariana with her house and bills despite the risks involved with her family. <\/p>\n

When asked why Cooper is so willing to put himself out there, Jacob explained, \u201cI think it\u2019s almost like a trauma bonding type thing. It\u2019s helping both of them not to be alone. At the end of the day, he\u2019s got a big heart, and he\u2019s a nice guy just trying to do what he can.\u201d<\/p>\n

One standout moment from the episode is the lawn-mowing scene, which Jacob described as a chance to explore Cooper\u2019s vulnerabilities. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve seen Cooper trying to be this blue-collar working man, but now we get to sit down and see that he\u2019s really just a kid,\u201d Jacob said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t really know what he\u2019s stepping into\u2026 It\u2019s kind of a fun little lost moment where she takes the lead. It\u2019s a fun dynamic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tensions With Ariana\u2019s Family<\/strong><\/p>\n

The tension with Ariana\u2019s cousins reaches a boiling point in this episode, culminating in another brutal beating for Cooper. <\/p>\n

Jacob laughed when asked about the repeated violence, \u201cIt\u2019s become a running thing for Cooper. He\u2019s always on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Filming those intense scenes, however, comes with its own challenges. Jacob credited the stunt team for their seamless work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have one of the best stunt teams around. I had a great double, but they always let me try things first. It\u2019s physically tough, but when you\u2019ve got the right people, it flows and works great.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Cooper\u2019s warning to Manuel \u2014 \u201cThis is the third and the last time\u201d \u2014 Jacob admitted he couldn\u2019t say too much. \u201cIt\u2019ll tie itself back together. I\u2019m not going to say it might not be at the hands of Cooper, but it works itself out,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n

Family Drama and \u201cHome\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The episode also brings Cooper back into the orbit of his estranged mother, Angela, for an awkward family dinner that does little to repair their fractured relationship. <\/p>\n

The tension is palpable as Angela puts on a show of normalcy with rented furniture and a carefully prepared meal, but it\u2019s clear that Cooper isn\u2019t buying it. <\/p>\n

Jacob reflected on the dynamic, \u201cI don\u2019t think Cooper really wanted to be there to begin with\u2026 I don\u2019t think it did much in the moment. Not for Cooper.\u201d<\/p>\n

The episode also contrasts Cooper\u2019s feelings about his biological family and his growing connection with Ariana. Cooper seems to feel more at home helping her than he does with his own family, a sentiment Jacob agrees with. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s been a really good question\u2026 I think as the series progresses, those questions will be answered,\u201d he said, pointing out that while the characters\u2019 backstories aren\u2019t fully revealed yet, there\u2019s hope for clarity later on.<\/p>\n

The episode\u2019s title, \u201cWhere Is Home,\u201d captures Cooper\u2019s ongoing struggle. He doesn\u2019t have a home. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s not in that little box where he waits for the job to start again. It\u2019s not with Ariana, although he\u2019s making it sort of homey. And it\u2019s also not at home with Angela and Tommy.<\/p>\n

When asked how long it might take Cooper to find his place, Jacob admitted, \u201cWe can only hope soon\u2026 Taylor and Christian will definitely lead us on an entertaining path.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next for Cooper?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jacob teased that the back half of the season will be full of twists and surprises. \u201cEntertaining, super suspenseful, and\u2026 cliffhangers,\u201d he said with a grin. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Taylor Sheridan\u2019s world<\/a>,\u201d he laughed. \u201cYou know you\u2019re going to have some cliffhangers in there!\u201d<\/p>\n

And as for Cooper? Jacob believes his character\u2019s blind determination will keep him going. \u201cHe\u2019s trying to prove it to himself and his dad and all these people around him,\u201d he said. \u201cHe wants it to be seen that he\u2019s done it on his own.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether Cooper can find his home or just keep surviving remains to be seen. One thing is clear \u2014 Jacob Lofland\u2019s performance has us rooting for him every step of the way.<\/p>\n
