A college football star has met a tragic fate.<\/p>\n
Weeks after sustaining a head injury during a football game, Alabama A&M Bulldogs player Medrick Burnett Jr.<\/strong> was pronounced dead Nov. 27,\u00a0Jefferson\u00a0County deputy\u00a0coroner AJ Clifton<\/strong> confirmed to NBC News<\/a> Nov. 29. Clifton did not elaborate on the linebacker\u2019s cause of death, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n The 20-year-old athlete sustained a head injury Oct. 26 during a football game against Alabama State University in the Magic City Classic, NBC News reported.<\/p>\n \u201cHe had several brain bleeds and swelling of the brain,\u201d Burnett\u2019s sister\u00a0Dominece James<\/strong>\u00a0explained on a GoFundMe page created to support his recovery. \u201cHe had to have a tube to drain to relieve the pressure, and after 2 days of severe pressure, we had to opt for a craniotomy, which was the last resort to help try to save his life.\u201d<\/p>\n Two days before Burnett\u2019s passing was confirmed, the university mistakenly released<\/a> a statement on their website saying he had died, citing an \u201cimmediate family member\u201d who had informed the faculty of his death.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
