Apple is said not to have plans to launch the app to consumers, but it could play a part in future health products.<\/p>\n<p>The company reportedly tested the app internally, with employees confirmed through a blood test to be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The subjects \u201cactively monitored their blood sugar via various devices available on the market,\u201d logging corresponding glucose changes. The app would then note correlations between dietary changes and blood sugar levels (for example, \u201cdon\u2019t eat the pasta\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Gurman says Apple paused the test to focus on other health features. <em>Bloomberg<\/em> notes that the Apple Health app currently lacks meal tracking, something <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-01-03-lifesum-food-tracking-google-assistant.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:rival services offer;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">rival services offer<\/a>. The publication also says Apple could eventually offer deeper third-party glucose tracking integration into its products.<\/p>\n<p>The study reportedly wasn\u2019t directly related to Apple\u2019s 15-year quest to offer <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017-04-13-a-future-apple-watch-could-be-essential-for-diabetics.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:non-invasive blood glucose monitoring;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">non-invasive blood glucose monitoring<\/a>, something that\u2019s seemingly regurgitated in Apple Watch rumors every cycle. The company\u2019s current hardware prototype is reportedly <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-watch-no-prick-blood-glucose-monitor-200137031.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:an iPhone-sized wearable device;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">an iPhone-sized wearable device<\/a> that uses lasers to shoot light into the skin. Gurman claims Apple\u2019s first consumer-facing version \u2014 whether in the Apple Watch or some other form \u2014 will likely only notify users if they may be pre-diabetic.
