In a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nlrb.gov\/case\/05-RC-352497\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:complaint;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">complaint<\/a> spotted by <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/apple-accused-restricting-workers-slack-social-media-use-by-us-labor-board-2024-10-11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Reuters;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>, the agency alleges Apple illegally fired an employee who had used Slack to advocate for workplace changes at the company. Separately, the NLRB accuses Apple of forcing another worker to delete a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>The case stems from a 2021 complaint filed by <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/cher-scarlett-appletoo-leaving-apple-085237633.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:#AppleToo co-organizer Janneke Parrish;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">#AppleToo co-organizer Janneke Parrish<\/a>. In October of that year, Apple fired Parrish for allegedly sharing confidential information, a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/bizwomen\/news\/latest-news\/2021\/10\/appletoo-organizer-didnt-expect-to-be-fired.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:claim she denies;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">claim she denies<\/a>. Per the complaint, Parrish used Slack and public social media posts to advocate for permanent remote work.<\/p>\n<p>She also shared open letters critical of the tech giant, distributed a pay equity survey, and recounted instances of sexual and racial discrimination at Apple. According to the labor board, Apple\u2019s policies bars employees from creating Slack channels without first obtaining permission from a manager. Instead, workers must direct their workplace concerns to either management or a \u201cPeople Support\u201d group the company maintains. The NLRB is looking to force the company to change its policy and reimburse Parrish for the financial hardships she suffered due to her firing.
