We first started this trip with everything we know about Yellowstone Season 5<\/a> Part 2 in the middle of 2023. <\/p>\n

While we finally have a premiere date, news about spinoffs and what happens next constantly fluctuates. There\u2019s even a special showing of the Part 2 premiere on CBS<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s take a look at what we know so far.<\/p>\n

\n\tHas Yellowstone Been Renewed?<\/h2>\n

Yellowstone has not been renewed. But it might not be canceled, either.<\/p>\n

The unknown world we\u2019re in now was the result of behind-the-scenes drama between series creator Taylor Sheridan and Dutton patriarch Kevin Costner.<\/p>\n

Initially, it was alleged that Kevin Costner<\/a> didn\u2019t want to commit to filming six more episodes, with reports claiming he gave a small window of availability. <\/p>\n

The actor\u2019s representatives shut down those claims, claiming Sheridan hadn\u2019t completed scripts, pushing filming beyond reason. It was then revealed that the series would end following Yellowstone Season 5.<\/p>\n

That wasn\u2019t always the plan, and it was likely a decision made when it seemed like the show couldn\u2019t continue in its current form with the behind-the-scenes drama.<\/p>\n

The series was allegedly meant to have seven seasons so that the story could have a natural finish.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s quite possible that will come to pass. At the very least, it\u2019s a solid bet that the show will continue, taking our favorite characters along for the ride.<\/p>\n

We even have an idea of how they can stretch the Dutton family turmoil to include black sheep Jamie. <\/p>\n

If we have those ideas, we\u2019re pretty sure Sheridan does, too.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Will Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Premiere?<\/h2>\n

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 9 will premiere on Sunday, November 10, 2024.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a long wait that will be a little longer, and we really have no idea what\u2019s ahead. A first-look compilation photo doesn\u2019t give away much other than that Jamie is still breathing and holding press conferences.<\/p>\n

Of course, Kevin Costner is absent, and the lead image features the future of the franchise: Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. <\/p>\n

With the series pivoting so dramatically from the first part of Season 5, our minds race with possibilities. We\u2019re not sure if that increases the excitement for the return, mounting anxiety for a good (Season? Series?) finish, or a little of both.<\/p>\n

\n\tWill Kevin Costner Return for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2?<\/h2>\n

Kevin Costner will not return for the final season.<\/p>\n

Whether that\u2019s a good decision on his part remains to be seen, but his apparent reason for not committing to the end is his four-part historical big-screen epic, the Horizon saga.<\/p>\n

Part One was not a hit, and since he financed the movies himself to a good degree, leaving Yellowstone to pursue his passion was a huge gamble.<\/p>\n

At this point, we can\u2019t imagine what this means for the show. How will John Dutton\u2019s story end? Only Sheridan and the cast know.<\/p>\n

At the end of Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8<\/a>, tensions were high, and as Jamie clashed with his family once again, it didn\u2019t seem like a stretch that he\u2019d kill John. After all, he\u2019d already killed his birth father. What\u2019s another dead father figure?<\/p>\n

While it could also make sense not to kill off the patriarch, the universe Sheridan created thrives on unexpected deaths, and when a man feels he\u2019s been wronged, what\u2019s a better way to get over it than to kill him off the most popular series of the last decade?<\/p>\n

Of course, the men could get together over a cup of coffee, and everything would change. That\u2019s how life is. You never know until you know.<\/p>\n

If that happens, I expect it will be a very tightly held secret to ensure that if anything falls apart, it won\u2019t be another massive disappointment for fans.<\/p>\n

Thanks to its sprawling storylines, Yellowstone has one of the biggest ensembles on the small screen.<\/p>\n

As we said, it\u2019s a stacked cast.<\/p>\n

We decided not to remove Kevin Costner entirely. We can remove those strikeout lines or his entire entry when the reality is revealed.<\/p>\n

But Costner\u2019s departure doesn\u2019t mean the end of John Dutton. Josh Lucas, who has played young John Dutton since Yellowstone Season 1, told Deadline<\/a> he reached out to Sheridan, and the door has not been shut on his return.<\/p>\n

Lucas\u2019s portrayal of the younger Dutton has been fantastic, and we\u2019re thrilled to hear that he might return.<\/p>\n

Is Yellowstone Canceled?<\/h2>\n

Ever since the news of the show\u2019s demise, reports emerged that a spinoff with Matthew McConaughey<\/a> was in the works. Well, sources now reveal that was never even close to being a reality.<\/p>\n

There was also discussion about Michelle Pfeiffer taking on a role in the spinoff, but recent news emerged that she\u2019s starring in a different Seridan series, The Madison, and casting is now underway.<\/p>\n

There was word of still another spinoff coming, starring Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes who were all reportedly close to finalizing deals, but even that has changed.<\/p>\n

The latest word on the street is that they\u2019re considering uncanceling Yellowstone<\/a>. Honestly, we don\u2019t know what to believe anymore!<\/p>\n

\n\tHow Many Episodes Have Been Ordered for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2?<\/h2>\n

While many thought we were getting six more episodes, Taylor Sheridan hinted it could be bigger.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I think it takes ten episodes to wrap it up, they\u2019ll give me ten,\u201d Sheridan explained to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in June 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be as long as it needs to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unless something has changed, it now seems that the number of episodes will cap at six. That\u2019s not the greatest news for fans, but if Sheridan is happy with how the story concludes and is willing to continue it with the Dutton children, we\u2019re here for it!<\/p>\n

\n\tIs There a Trailer for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2?<\/h2>\n

At first, there were numerous teasers<\/a>, but none featured new footage. <\/p>\n

Given the secrecy surrounding how these final episodes will unfold, it\u2019s hard to imagine a trailer that wouldn\u2019t give away too much, spoiling the viewer experience.<\/p>\n

How do you promote final episodes after such a wild pivot? That\u2019s not an easy question to answer.<\/p>\n
