The Carters may have had a young daughter but they\u00a0also had three daughters-in-law\u00a0by the time Jimmy became president, and\u00a0most of the\u00a0family moved to Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jack and wife\u00a0Juliette “Judy” Langford<\/strong>\u00a0stayed in Georgia, where they had welcomed son Jason James Carter<\/strong> on Aug. 7, 1975, and where\u00a0daughter\u00a0Sarah Rosemary<\/strong>\u00a0would be born Dec. 19, 1978. (After their divorce, Jack married mother of two\u00a0Elizabeth Brasfield<\/strong> on May 15, 1992.)<\/p>\n The Carters’ second son,\u00a0James Earl “Chip” Carter III<\/strong>, worked for the Democratic National Committee in Washington\u00a0while his dad was in office and moved into the White House with\u00a0wife\u00a0Caron<\/strong> Griffin<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>who\u00a0was\u00a0eight months pregnant on Inauguration Day. Still, she\u00a0strolled along the parade route with the rest of the family for a few blocks\u00a0when the president and first lady made the unprecedented move to walk the\u00a0whole mile and a half from the Capitol to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.<\/p>\n “People along the parade route, when they saw that we were walking, began to cheer and weep,” Jimmy later wrote<\/a>, “and it was an emotional experience for us as well.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
