What\u2019s on your fall checklist? The weather\u2019s getting crisper, we\u2019ve stocked the fridge with apples, and I\u2019m excited to queue up my comfort movie<\/a>. Here are seven more laid-back things to do\u2026<\/p>\n

\"Joanna<\/a><\/p>\n

1. Go shopping in an actual store. Over the weekend, I popped into S\u00e9zane<\/a> in Manhattan to check out their fall pieces, and it was such a treat. The store is beautiful with velvet dressing room curtains and friendly shop girls. I tried a bunch of everyday pieces, like a patent leather bag<\/a> (which comes in four colors<\/a>), an oversized trench<\/a> (the pretty lining!), and leopard shoes<\/a> (would look cute with jeans). Afterward, I grabbed a coffee and walked home in the sunshine \u2014 the whole morning was so much fun. <\/p>\n

2. Go apple picking. My friend Alison<\/a> just took her two kids<\/a> to Fishkill Farms<\/a> and gave it rave reviews. \u201cWe do this every year,\u201d she told us. \u201cThe farm has everything you want: apples, pears, flowers, and a tractor that takes you around the farm. By the end of our day, the kids were covered in dirt and so<\/em> happy.\u201d Bonus: the next morning, you can make apple pancakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3. Find the best egg sandwich\/banana bread\/croissant\/cookie\/you-name-it. Last week, I was texting with a friend who\u2019s going through a hard time. We were brainstorming fun activities we could do to get her mind off things and decided to search for the best chocolate chip cookies in Brooklyn. Do you have any places you swear by? (So far, L\u2019Appartement 4F<\/a> is in the lead.)<\/p>\n

4. Watch Bad Sisters season two<\/a>. The Irish black comedy is back on November 13th. I adored all the women in this brilliant series and can\u2019t wait to see what my pretend bff Sharon Horgan<\/a> does with the next season.<\/p>\n

5. Host a craft night. I\u2019m hopelessly uncrafty, but after making Valentine\u2019s Day cards<\/a> with friends last year, I realized I like making things with my hands, even if the result is terrible. So, as the days grow shorter and we spend more time inside, I\u2019m looking for easy projects to do with friends or the boys. How great would these grape garlands<\/a> look on a dinner table?<\/p>\n

6. Take a walk with a funny podcast. There\u2019s something deeply satisfying about fall walks \u2014 breathing in the brisk air and feeling crunchy leaves under your feet. If you\u2019re in a chatty mood, do a five-minute phone call<\/a> with a friend. Or, if you\u2019re in the mood to laugh out loud, listen to the Celebrity Book Club episode<\/a> on French chef Jacques P\u00e9pin \u2014 it\u2019s brilliant.<\/p>\n

7. Lie supine on the sofa with a gripping book. What are you reading? Two of my favorite authors \u2014 Elizabeth Strout and Sally Rooney \u2014 are publishing novels this fall. In Strout\u2019s Tell Me Everything<\/a> (out today!), her two beloved heroines, Lucy Barton<\/a> and Olive Kitteridge<\/a>, come together and get involved in a murder case. Intermezzo<\/a>, by Rooney, follows two brothers who are grieving their father\u2019s death while also grappling with their own tumultuous (of course) romantic relationships. Also, Rumaan Alam\u2019s next book, Entitlement<\/a>, which apparently has Succession<\/em> vibes, comes out next week \u2014\u00a0did you ever read his terrifying 2020 novel Leave the World Behind<\/a>? I get chills just thinking about it.<\/p>\n
