Now imagine trying to build one that\u2019s 100 times its normal size with nearly all the same forms and functions.<\/p>\n<p>YouTubers Matthew Perkins (<a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=o8jFJAtVyr8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:DIY Perks;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>) and Arun Maini (<a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CpCZNCm5zgw&amp;t=1018s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:MrWhoseTheBoss;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>) did exactly that, building a working replica of an <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/iphone-15-pro-max-review-apple-makes-a-strong-case-for-its-biggest-phone-130018980.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:iPhone 15 Pro Max;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>. The completed project measured 6.74 feet tall and 440 pounds, earning the pair <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/world-records\/423011-largest-smartphone-replica\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:an official Guinness World Record;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"5997f2d0-0471-5c61-b7a2-1c57a41e285c\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o8jFJAtVyr8?si=C9wowzFl1XNPvHp8\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><p><noscript><iframe title=\"Building the world&#039;s LARGEST functional iPhone\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o8jFJAtVyr8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Perkins started his build with the screen, a massive undertaking that required converting a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2020-01-02-lg-rollable-tv-ces-2020-oled-displays.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:LG Signature 88-inch OLED TV;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> into a responsive touchscreen. He commissioned a manufacturer to fabricate a piece of touch foil the size of the screen, which he fixed in place with an optically clear glue UV epoxy.<\/p>\n<p>The next challenge was finding a way to fit oversized versions of the phone\u2019s components in a frame: the speakers, three-lens camera array, the volume and power buttons and the special function button. He built a frame out of aluminum with a cross shaped support in the middle. The cameras especially weren&#8217;t cheap, as Perkins opted to use both a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/canon-eos-r5-review-150038797-150038558.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Canon EOS R5;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> as well as a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017-09-12-sonys-crazy-expensive-rx10-iv-superzoom-gets-a-speed-boost.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Sony RX10 Mark 4;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> to mimic the iPhone 15 Pro Max\u2019s telephoto lens. But using Android had two major perks: the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/blissos.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Bliss OS;cpos:8;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Bliss OS<\/a> recreated the feel of an iPhone home screen using a themed skin, and they could install Flappy Bird \u2014 something actual iPhone owners haven&#8217;t been able to do in <a data-i13n=\"cpos:9;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/02\/09\/flappy-bird-remove-from-app-store\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:nearly a decade;cpos:9;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">nearly a decade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The phone may be big but it appears to be just as functional as a handheld iPhone. Maini and a group of friends took the phone into the real world to test it out, and apparently it can make tap-to-pay purchases, send emails and make video calls.
