I love our Brooklyn home<\/a> (that\u2019s the guest room<\/a>, above), and now that we\u2019ve been living here for almost eight years, I\u2019m very familiar with all the nooks and crannies. This next sentence feels extremely<\/em> forty-something but: over the fall, I\u2019m excited to organize our closets, clear out the storage area, and add a few decor surprises and delights. Here are five ideas (and I\u2019d love to hear what design details you\u2019re into these days!)\u2026<\/p>\n

1. Hang art in unexpected places.<\/strong> How cool is that framed drawing beneath the window? I love seeing artwork placed high up, low down, around corners\u2026<\/p>\n

2. Paint our staircase.<\/strong> Right now, our stairs and the hallway are white, which is fine but meh. Even if we didn\u2019t go all out, like the townhouse above, maybe we could paint the banister pale pink or dark blue.<\/p>\n

3. Display book covers.<\/strong> I forgot how good it looks when a few books face out from a bookcase, and I\u2019d especially love to do it with this John Currin cover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Side note: Our house doesn\u2019t have a window that would work for this, but how beautiful is this bookcase?!<\/p>\n

4. Freshen up the artwork.<\/strong> Two year ago, I gave our living room a \u2018fakeover\u2019<\/a> by moving around two paintings, and I was amazed by how different the space looked. I\u2019m also excited to bring in a couple pieces from emerging artists and small retailers, like this<\/a> and this<\/a> and this<\/a> and this<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5. Add some brown.<\/strong> My friend\u2019s favorite color is brown, and she says she\u2019s been teased for that her whole life. But it\u2019s her moment to shine because this fall, brown is huge in fashion<\/a> and decor. I\u2019m inspired to bring some brown into our home \u2013 maybe a blanket<\/a>? Or pillow<\/a>?<\/p>\n
