{"id":81862,"date":"2024-07-12T18:47:14","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T18:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/att-says-hackers-stole-data-from-nearly-all-of-its-customers\/"},"modified":"2024-07-12T18:47:14","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T18:47:14","slug":"att-says-hackers-stole-data-from-nearly-all-of-its-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/att-says-hackers-stole-data-from-nearly-all-of-its-customers\/","title":{"rendered":"AT&#038;T says hackers stole data from &#8216;nearly all&#8217; of its customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Hackers stole call and text records data from &#8220;nearly all&#8221; of 109 million AT&amp;T Wireless customers, the telecommunications company disclosed on Friday. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The firm said one suspect had been arrested after the records &#8211; from May to October 2022 &#8211; were illegally downloaded and copied to a third-party platform this April.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The stolen data did not contain the content of calls or texts, but did record the numbers contacted, as well as the number and lengths of interactions, the company said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Justice Department said the delayed announcement of the hack was justified on national security grounds.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cWe sincerely regret this incident occurred and remain committed to protecting the information in our care,\u201d AT&amp;T said in a statement.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The company said in its <!-- --><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/ix?doc=\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0000732717\/000073271724000046\/t-20240506.htm\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<!-- --><\/a> to the securities and exchange commission it had secured its systems from further similar hacks and did not believe what was stolen was publicly available.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">It said it first learned of the breach five days after hackers started stealing data on 14 April. They continued to do so until 25 April, the company said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Experts have warned that the information could be used to identify work places, approximate home locations, as well as potential colleagues and friends.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The breach comes months after AT&amp;T disclosed  that data from 2019 of 73 million former and current customers had been stolen and placed on the &#8220;dark web&#8221; by fraudsters.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">AT&amp;T said it would alert affected customers.
