Michael Bay is heading for the small screen!<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> revealed today that Bay is in talks with Netflix to direct the streamers\u2019 upcoming \u201cacerbic fantasy series\u201d Barbaric.<\/p>\n

The show is based on a best-selling graphic novel series published by Vault Comics.<\/p>\n

Patrick Stewart and Sam Claflin of Peaky Blinders<\/a> fame are currently attached to star.<\/p>\n

Bay, of course, is best known for his big-screen action epics, such as the Transformers and Bad Boys series, The Rock, and Pearl Harbor.<\/p>\n

So working within the confines of a TV budget might prove challenging to Bay.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re sure he\u2019s up to the task, however, and his willingness to scale down his larger-than-life aesthetic might be a testament to his enthusiasm for the story.<\/p>\n

Claflin will star as the murderous barbarian Owen, while Stewart<\/a> will provide the voice of his demonic talking ax.<\/p>\n

Neither Netflix nor Bay\u2019s team has commented on today\u2019s THR report.<\/p>\n

But according to several insiders, Bay is at the center of this project, and he\u2019s the force that has brought the various elements together.<\/p>\n

The blockbuster auteur worked with showrunner Sheldon Turner on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and he\u2019s currently collaborating with Vault on a different project, a story universe created by Post Malone.<\/p>\n

So yeah, Bay is a busy guy.<\/p>\n

And that means the Barabaric series might not hit our screens as soon as some of the comic series\u2019 fans had hoped.<\/p>\n

But the good news is that Bay\u2019s involvement means the project will almost certainly see the light of day at some point.<\/p>\n

It also means that the series is that much more likely to have a longer shelf life.<\/p>\n

Netflix\u2019s cancel-happy ways<\/a> have become the stuff of infamy in recent years, and the streamer has demonstrated a frustrating reluctance to give new series enough time to build an audience.<\/p>\n

Will the combination of the comics\u2019 popularity and Bay\u2019s signature turn Barbaric into Netflix\u2019s next huge hit?<\/p>\n

Only time will tell, but this project has \u201cpotential smash\u201d written all over it!<\/p>\n
