Almost a decade ago, I shared my friend Sharon\u2019s theory<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery adult has an age of child that they\u2019re especially good with,\u201d she said \u2014 and I still<\/em> think about this all the time. My friend Gemma loves holding newborn babies, whereas I tend to feel a wave of depression<\/a> remembering those tough early days. I adore a wacky three- or four-year-old with their magical thinking and almost<\/em> correct words (Toby used to say \u201cmasimoto\u201d instead of motorcycle), and Alex has told me that he\u2019s especially enjoying the preteen\/teenage years since you can have bigger conversations and watch movies you both<\/em> like \u2014\u00a0and I don\u2019t disagree! It has surprised me how much I love this age, as I witness the boys chatting with neighbors, doing pitch-perfect Bad Sisters<\/a> accents, peppering our house with their socks<\/a>, and slowly but surely growing into kind men. What an honor to raise them, my beating heart.<\/p>\n
