Two Netflix films, \u201cFrankenstein\u201d and \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d won multiple Academy Awards tonight.<\/p>\n
Director Guillermo del Toro\u2019s reimagining of \u201cFrankenstein\u201d won for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while Netflix\u2019s most-watched movie ever \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d<\/a> won for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.<\/p>\n In recent years, films produced and distributed by streaming companies have become a steady presence at the Oscars, with \u201cRoma,<\/a>\u201d \u201cThe Power of the Dog,\u201d and \u201cAll Quiet on the Western Front\u201d<\/a> winning major awards. However, the biggest prize seems to remain out of reach for Netflix \u2014 Apple\u2019s \u201cCODA,\u201d released near the height of the pandemic, remains the only streaming film to win Best Picture<\/a>.<\/p>\n Host Conan O\u2019Brien even noted the presence of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos at the beginning of the ceremony, joking, \u201cThis is exciting: It\u2019s his first time in a theater!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFrankenstein\u201d was nominated for nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor. Netflix\u2019s \u201cTrain Dreams\u201d and Apple\u2019s \u201cF1\u201d (which won for Best Sound) were also nominated Best Picture, but that award went to \u201cOne Battle After Another.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
