When it comes to the Oscars<\/a>, drama isn’t just a movie genre.<\/p>\n After all, the Academy Awards has seen its fair share of controversies, and pearl-clutching moments, since its inception almost a century ago\u2014including in recent years.<\/p>\n Take 2022 ceremony, when Will Smith<\/strong><\/a> left the entire audience inside Dolby Theatre\u2014not to mention the millions of viewers at home\u2014stunned by storming the stage<\/a> and slapping Chris Rock<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0over a dig at Jada Pinkett Smith<\/strong><\/a>‘s shaved head during the presentation for Best Documentary Feature.<\/p>\n “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth,” Smith told the comedian, who retorted, “Dude. It was a G.I. Jane<\/em> joke.”<\/p>\n Though the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air<\/em> alum eventually apologized<\/a> for his violent outburst, he was slapped (this time metaphorically) with a 10-year ban<\/a> by the Academy that barred him from attending any of their events until 2032.<\/p>\n “That was a horrific night as you can imagine,” Smith\u2014who ended up winning Best Actor for his performance in King Richard<\/em> shortly after the slap\u2014recalled during a December 2022 appearance on The Daily Show<\/em><\/a>. “There\u2019s many nuances and complexities to it.
