A pot of gold awaits you at the end of this anniversary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Luck of the Irish<\/span><\/em>, the classic <\/span>Disney<\/span><\/a> Channel Original Movie\u2014a.k.a. <\/span>DCOM\u2014is turning 25 March 9, appropriately just ahead of <\/span>St. Patrick\u2019s Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The 2001 movie starred frequent DCOM actor <\/span>Ryan<\/strong> <\/span>Merriman<\/strong> as Kyle O\u2019Reilly Johnson, a high school basketball player unaware of his Irish heritage<\/span>\u2014or the accompanying magical curse<\/span>. Kyle must recover his family\u2019s lucky gold from the evil leprechaun Seamus McTiernen (<\/span>Timothy Omundson<\/strong>) before he and his family are all transform into leprechauns.<\/span><\/p>\n And while the film has a decidedly Irish <\/span>slant<\/span>, Merriman couldn\u2019t help but see the similarities between his character and <\/span>another famous basketball-playing<\/span><\/a> Disney Channel star.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m the OG Troy Bolton,\u201d Merriman <\/span>told E! News<\/span><\/a>, calling out <\/span>Zac Efron<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s <\/span>High School Musical <\/span><\/em>character. \u201cThere, I said it. There are just too many similarities between <\/span>The Luck of the Irish <\/span><\/em>and <\/span>High School Musical<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
