{"id":105070,"date":"2026-01-25T09:49:21","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T09:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/25\/alex-honnold-scales-101-floor-skyscraper-without-safety-gear\/"},"modified":"2026-01-25T09:49:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T09:49:21","slug":"alex-honnold-scales-101-floor-skyscraper-without-safety-gear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neclink.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/25\/alex-honnold-scales-101-floor-skyscraper-without-safety-gear\/","title":{"rendered":"Alex Honnold scales 101-floor skyscraper without safety gear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">American climber Alex Honnold has successfully scaled a Taiwan skyscraper without a rope, harness or safety equipment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The building, named Taipei 101 for the number of its floors, stands at 508m (1,667ft) of steel, glass and concrete and is designed to resemble a stick of bamboo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Honnold is renowned for being the first person to climb El Capitan, the vertical granite cliff in California&#8217;s Yosemite national park &#8211; also without ropes or safety gear. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The climb was originally set to take place on Saturday but was <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c8rm135lnneo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\">delayed by wet weather.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">His ascent in Taiwan&#8217;s capital was streamed live on Netflix, which said there would be a delay on the live feed should the worst happen. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Honnold completed the climb in one hour and 31 minutes and celebrated the achievement with one word: &#8220;Sick.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">His time more than halves the record of the only other person to scale the tower. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Alain Robert, a Frenchman who called himself &#8220;Spiderman&#8221;, made it to the top of Taipei 101 &#8211; at the time the world&#8217;s tallest building &#8211; <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/asia-pacific\/4124891.stm\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\">in four hours<\/a>. He did so with ropes and a harness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Taiwan&#8217;s Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim congratulated Honnold on the ascent, writing on X: &#8220;I admit I would probably feel sick, too, barely able to watch.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Honnold was greeted at the top of the building by his wife, who expressed concern for the wind and heat as he climbed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">But there was another distraction during his ascent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">As Honnold reached the 89th floor, fans cheered and waved, face to face but for the window with the man clinging to the building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DT6sBlck43T\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\">Video of the moment<\/a> was shared by Honnold and Netflix on Instagram, showing the climber continuing undeterred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Honnold has made many extreme climbs during his career.
