Flavor doesn\u2019t suffer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .block-quick-tips__inner --><\/div>\n<p> <!-- .block-quick-tips --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-red-beans-and-rice\">How to Make Red Beans and Rice<\/h2>\n<p>This red beans and rice recipe is my go-to for cozy comfort. It\u2019s best served with a side of warm <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/homemade-cornbread\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">cornbread<\/a> drizzled in <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/honey-butter\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">honey butter<\/a>! It\u2019s the perfect sweet contrast to the savory beans!<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list is-style-fancy\">\n<li><strong>Cook Rice:<\/strong> In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/cuisinart-classic-3-5-34-stainless-steel-pour-saucepan-with-straining-lid\/-\/A-94444984#lnk=sametab\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">large saucepan<\/a>, cook uncooked long-grain white rice\u00a0according to package directions. Remove from heat, keeping the rice covered, and set aside.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brown Sausage:<\/strong> Heat\u00a0olive oil\u00a0over medium heat in a large saut\u00e9 pan or Dutch oven.\u00a0Add the sliced andouille sausage and cook until it starts to brown.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Veggies &amp; Seasonings:<\/strong> Add\u00a0diced onion, diced green bell pepper, and\u00a0diced celery stalks, then cook for about 5-6 minutes, until the veggies are just starting to get tender.\u00a0Add in\u00a0minced garlic, <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/cajun-seasoning\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">Cajun seasoning<\/a>, cayenne, and dried thyme. Stir to combine. Allow this to cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cook:<\/strong> Pour in <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/chicken-broth\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">chicken broth<\/a>,\u00a0red beans, and bay leaf. Add\u00a0salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, then cover, and reduce the heat to low and cook covered for 15 minutes. Remove the lid and continue to cook, stirring occasionally. Using a wooden spoon, gently mash the beans to help thicken.
