I made some slight changes to the ingredient measurements and removed some items that didn\u2019t belong. Make it and let me know what you think!<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list is-style-fancy\">\n<li><strong>Make Roux:<\/strong> Combine\u00a0the vegetable oil and\u00a0flour\u00a0in a large 6 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/8qt-stainless-steel-tall-stock-pot-silver-figmint-8482\/-\/A-87713751#lnk=sametab\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">8-quart pot<\/a>, then cook over medium low heat. Cook for 30-45 minutes, whisking occasionally, until the roux is a dark chocolate brown color.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Sausage &amp; Veggies:<\/strong> Increase the heat to medium and add\u00a0the sausage,\u00a0onion,\u00a0bell pepper, and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables have softened. Add the garlic\u00a0and cook for another minute, until fragrant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add:<\/strong> Slowly stir in\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/chicken-broth\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">chicken broth<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Season &amp; Simmer:<\/strong> Add the bay leaves,\u00a0Cajun or Creole seasoning,\u00a0thyme, and\u00a0salt\u00a0and\u00a0pepper\u00a0to taste. Return the heat to medium low and simmer uncovered for about an hour.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Chicken:<\/strong> Add\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/instant-pot-shredded-chicken\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">chicken<\/a>\u00a0and continue to simmer for another 45-60 minutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Shrimp &amp; Serve: <\/strong>About 15 minutes before serving, stir\u00a0the shrimp\u00a0into the New Orleans gumbo and simmer until they are pink and cooked through. Discard the bay leaves before serving and garnish with\u00a0green onions.
