The Zac Brown Band\u2019s handlers may believe in that old saw, \u201call publicity is good publicity.\u201d Still, the headline that most acts hope to generate when they open a music residency at the Las Vegas Sphere isn\u2019t \u2018Country Music Star Accused of Satanic Ritual at Show.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The opening night of the Georgia country band\u2019s \u201cLove & Fear\u201d residency on December 5 featured flame-red skeletons, demons and, at one point, Brown donning what appeared to be a red crown of devil horns.<\/p>\n

Within hours, Brown\u2019s core audience exploded accusations all over social media that the band had staged more than entertainment, but an actual satanic ritual.<\/p>\n

\u201cShowing images of hell and humans being tormented,\u201d wrote X user @ninoboxer in a post<\/a> that received 66K views. \u201cMy question is\u2026 when did country music turn into THIS?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenter @WilliamMey11690 agreed\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThis SHIT is not country music,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt never has been, and it never will be. This is the demonic realm attempting to knock down one of the few remaining music genres that do not bow down to satan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cZac Brown Band performed a demonic ritual at the sphere,\u201d X user @_TruthZone_ echoed in a since-deleted post. \u201cMost of these concerts are energy harvesting rituals.\u201d<\/p>\n

The kicker? Brown paid out of his own pocket for the visuals that offended so many of his fans. In an interview with Us Weekly<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0he admitted \u201cgoing into debt to make it happen\u201d \u2014 to the rumored tune of $6-$8 million of the standard $10 million it costs to produce a video that can be played only on the world\u2019s largest indoor video screen.<\/p>\n

Usually, bands perform a couple dozen shows to amortize the expense across many profitable performances. But the Zac Brown band is performing only eight Sphere shows (until January 17) before they are expected to launch a spring\/summer US tour. (Nothing\u2019s been announced yet.)<\/p>\n

The Devil Came Up from Georgia<\/h2>\n

While it\u2019s beyond far\u2011fetched to think that Brown \u2014 who worked as a counselor at two Christian summer camps during his Georgia youth \u2014 staged an actual satanic ritual at a $2.3 billion venue owned by a $2.5 billion public company, knowing your audience would probably have been some damn good advice for him to take.<\/p>\n

This was not a 1981 Ozzy Osbourne crowd.<\/p>\n

The last message shared on the official Zac Brown Band\u2019s X account<\/a> seemed oblivious to even the faintest possibility of any controversy.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpening night at @SphereVegas \u2026 what a ride,\u201d Brown wrote. \u201cAfter dreaming this one up for a long time it feels surreal to finally live it. We\u2019ve played a lot of shows, but nothing like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

That last sentence certainly did end up being true, didn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n
