Exactly 30 years after Martin Scorsese immortalized Las Vegas in \u201cCasino,\u201d the legendary director is headed back to the tables \u2014 this time in partnership with Netflix.<\/p>\n

The streamer has given a straight\u2011to\u2011series order for an eight\u2011episode drama created by \u201cBillions\u201d co\u2011creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, with Scorsese executive-producing.<\/p>\n

For Scorsese, Vegas casinos are crucibles of human desire, greed and survival. But although the new show shares a subject matter with the 1995 cinema classic, it will not be a reboot or continuation.<\/p>\n

The as-yet-untitled series will plunge into the high\u2011stakes world of present\u2011day Vegas. At its center is Robert \u201cBobby Red\u201d Redman, president of the Strip\u2019s hottest casino hotel, who must make dangerous bets to secure his position, expand his empire and outmaneuver his cutthroat rivals.<\/p>\n

Since the 1970s-\u201980s era occupied by \u201cCasino,\u201d corporate greed and celebrity culture have reshaped the Strip. No longer gambling halls, casinos have become sprawling entertainment factories. And their operators must cut deals for the hottest and most expensive headliners, celebrity chefs and nightclubs to keep profits churning while juggling regulators, high-rollers and the constant lust for expansion from shareholders and other investors.<\/p>\n

Koppelman and Levien bring their own gambling pedigree to the table, having written \u201cRounders\u201d (1998) and \u201cOcean\u2019s Thirteen\u201d (2007). They\u2019ve also worked with Scorsese before, on HBO\u2019s \u201cVinyl.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Scorsese, this continues his expansion into streaming via Netflix, for which he reunited with \u201cCasino\u201d star Robert De Niro for \u201cThe Irishman\u201d (2019), and directed both \u201cRolling Thunder: A Bob Dylan Story\u201d (2019) and the Fran Lebowitz series \u201cPretend It\u2019s a City\u201d (2021).<\/p>\n

The new Vegas series is still in early development, with no cast, director or release date announced.<\/p>\n
