Footage obtained by\u00a0<em>PokerNews<\/em>, which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pokernews.com\/news\/2025\/11\/maurice-hawkins-assaulted-in-poker-home-game-50128.htm\">broke the story<\/a>, spread rapidly across social media platforms, sparking debate about what triggered the altercation.<\/p>\n<p>The footage shows Hawkins absorbing multiple punches to the head while still seated, before attempting to grapple with his attacker. He is also known for baiting his poker opponents with boasts about his prowess both on the felt and in the boxing ring. And, as one anonymous source told <em>PokerNews, <\/em>the other player simply \u201chad enough\u201d of him \u201crunning his mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another player in the game, Tray Rock, explained that he and Hawkins had identified themselves as African American in nationality, a claim that was challenged by a player identified only as Eugene, who took issue with \u201cAfrican American\u201d being a nationality.<\/p>\n<p>Not usually one to back down, Hawkins, according to Rock, then quipped: \u201cSo what \u2014 you want to box about it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This triggered Eugene to rise from his chair and launch the assault.<\/p>\n<p>Hawkins addressed the incident on X (formerly Twitter) , posting video and commentary seemingly in response to those who claimed he had been defeated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe narratives are hilarious,\u201d he wrote. \u201cA guy tried to sucker punch me and sneak attack me while I am in my seat. Then you post I got my ass whoop. Fucking hilarious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While physical confrontations in poker remain rare, they do occur.
