Amazon’s Criterion Collection Black Friday sale<\/a> doesn’t always include preorders, but one of the most popular upcoming releases is now eligible for the 50% discount. Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut is available to preorder for $25 (was $50) on 4K Blu-ray<\/a> and $20 (was $40) on 1080p Blu-ray<\/a>. Eyes Wide Shut releases November 25<\/strong>, and it’s currently the No. 1 best-selling movie on Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n Eyes Wide Shut is Criterion’s second Stanley Kubrick release of 2025. Criterion brought Barry Lyndon to 4K Blu-ray in July. If you haven’t picked up Kubrick’s superb historical drama yet, it’s also eligible for Amazon’s half-off sale, dropping the price of Barry Lyndon’s 4K Blu-ray to $25 (was $50)<\/a>. Several 1080p Blu-ray and DVD editions of Kubrick’s films are in the promotion<\/a>, too. But the best Kubrick Black Friday 2025<\/a> deal outside of the Eyes Wide Shut preorder is probably the superb and officially authorized archive book. The Stanley Kubrick Archives is on sale for only $38.66 (was $100)<\/a> when you click the coupon box on Amazon’s store page.<\/p>\n Arguably Kubrick’s strangest–and certainly the most sexually explicit–film, Eyes Wide Shut was a major box office hit, but it proved to be too unsettling and weird for some critics and fans back in 1999. These days, though, many critics and fans alike consider the Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman film to be a masterpiece.<\/p>\n The 4K release of Eyes Wide Shut is a three-disc set with one 4K UHD disc and two 1080p Blu-ray discs. Like other Criterion releases, this version is designed to be as close as possible to Kubrick’s thoroughly meticulous vision for how it should be presented. While the famed director passed away in 1999 less than a week after screening the final cut for Warner Bros., Criterion’s restoration was supervised by the movie’s director of photography, Larry Smith. Since the 1080p version is based on the 4K restoration, it should also be an improvement over the current Blu-ray edition.<\/p>\n Notably, Criterion restored the international version–the aforementioned final cut–not the US theatrical edition, which was censored in order to attain an R rating.<\/p>\n On a technical level, this release offers support for Dolby Vision HDR and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound.<\/p>\n For the bonus materials, new interviews have been filmed with Smith, photographer and second-unit director Lisa Leone, and Stanley Kubrick archivist Georgina Orgill.<\/p>\n There are also archival extras from previous Blu-ray releases of Eyes Wide Shut, like interviews with the actors, a documentary examining the unfinished films of Kubrick, and more. All of these are available to watch on the bonus standard Blu-ray disc. The standard Blu-ray edition is a two-disc set with the same bonus features.<\/p>\n Inside the display case you’ll also find a booklet with a 1999 interview with Kubrick and actor Sydney Pollack as well as a new essay by author Megan Abbott. Check out the full list of features below.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Loosely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s novella Dream Story<\/a>, Eyes Wide Shut follows doctor Bill Harford (Tom Cruise) and his wife, Alice (Nicole Kidman), as they confront their unconscious desires, jealousies, and fears inside of a version of New York City that feels a step removed from reality.<\/p>\n As mentioned, Barry Lyndon, Kubrick’s superb 1975 historical drama following a conman who infiltrates high society, is available for $25 (was $50) on 4K Blu-ray<\/a> at Amazon. And just like with Eyes Wide Shut, the standard Blu-ray edition of Barry Lyndon<\/a> is up for grabs for only $20. Barry Lyndon is a three-hour visual feast thanks to decadent cinematography and lavish costume designs. It was awarded the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.<\/p>\n Barry Lyndon was Criterion’s first 4K Blu-ray edition of a Stanley Kubrick film, but the distributor has printed 1080p Blu-ray and DVD editions of a handful of the director’ other movies, including Dr. Strangelove<\/a>, The Killing<\/a>, and Paths of Glory<\/a><\/strong>. Criterion also released Spartacus<\/a><\/strong> on DVD, but as you’ll see in the next section, the 4K Blu-ray edition of Spartacus<\/a> is half the price–even though Criterion’s Spartacus is 50% off right now. The CC40 40-Film Box Set<\/a> has Barry Lyndon on Blu-ray, so we’ve included it in the list below.<\/p>\n One 1080p Blu-ray edition to pay close attention to in the list below is The Killing, as it’s one of only two Kubrick movies that hasn’ been released on 4K Blu-ray.<\/p>\n Kubrick fans will need to look outside The Criterion Collection to watch most of the director’s popular films on 4K Blu-ray, including The Shining<\/a>, A Clockwork Orange<\/a>, 2001: A Space Odyssey<\/a>, and Full Metal Jacket<\/a>, Dr. Strangelove<\/a>, and Spartacus<\/a>. The Shining recently joined The Film Vault<\/a>, a series of limited-edition 4K Blu-rays designed by Vice Press in partnership with Warner Bros. UK.<\/p>\n The region-free Special Edition of The Shining shown above includes the film on 4K Blu-ray an exclusive steelbook case, a cigar box with an acetate slipcover, two double-sided posters, and eight art cards. It’s worth noting The Shining’s standard 4K Blu-ray is only $14 right now.<\/p>\n Kubrick’s Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket also recently received a new 4K Blu-ray Steelbook Edition<\/a> that’s up for grabs for only $27.<\/p>\n Not all of Kubrick’s films have been restored on 4K Blu-ray. The 1956 film The Killing<\/a> and Kubrick’s 1962 adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita<\/a> are only available on standard Blu-ray. We’ve included a list of Kubrick movies on 1080p Blu-ray below. In a few cases, the standard Blu-ray edition is considerably cheaper than the 4K edition. Just be aware that many of the 4K editions also come with standard Blu-ray discs. In addition to standalone editions, there are a few Kubrick Blu-ray box sets, including a fancy Amazon-exclusive edition dubbed The Masterpiece Collection<\/a>–it’s out of print and fairly expensive–and a region-free 9-film collection<\/a> that’s very reasonably priced at just $35.<\/p>\n If you love Kubrick’s films, you owe it to yourself to check out a few of Taschen’s superb books about the director’s work. Most recently, the premium art book publisher released an enormous two-volume hardcover set about The Shining. This exhaustive deep dive by J.W. Rinzler is based on hundreds of hours of interviews and mountains of research. It’s the definitive making-of account on Kubrick’s most popular film. The second book is a scrapbook with never-before-seen documents and photography from the production. The nearly 1,400-page box set is pricey at $125, but it’s simply incredible in scope. We’d highly recommend it.<\/p>\n All Kubrick fans should also add Taschen’s The Stanley Kubrick Archives<\/a> to their collection. It’s available in a large coffee table book edition and in a more budget-friendly, compact edition<\/a> for $20.50. Taschen’s The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey<\/a> is also a great read. We’d recommend Michael Benson’s 2018 book, Space Odyssey<\/a>, too.
