Chris Sacca\u2019s venture firm\u00a0Lowercarbon\u00a0Capital is raising a second fund to back nuclear\u00a0fusion energy hopefuls, the VC said at the SOSV Climate Tech Summit<\/a> on\u00a0Thursday,\u00a0as reported by Bloomberg.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The firm has backed leading fusion startup Commonwealth Fusion Systems, as well as others\u00a0like Pacific Fusion. It raised a $250 million,\u00a0fusion-geared\u00a0fund in 2022.\u00a0Fusion believers, who include a number of\u00a0well-known climate VCs beyond Sacca (like Vinod Khosla<\/a>), still hold faith that\u00a0a breakthrough needed to make it commercially viable is just around the corner.\u00a0And several\u00a0advances\u00a0are showing promise<\/a> of delivering one.<\/p>\n In the meantime, building fusion reactors is expensive. Commonwealth raised $863 million earlier<\/a> this year, after raising a $1.8 billion Series B four years ago. TechCrunch has documented a dozen fusion startups<\/a> that have raised over $100 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sacca didn\u2019t say how big this second fund will be, but a source told Bloomberg that it\u2019s intended to be bigger than the first.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
