Workday, in which a Black job applicant alleges the company\u2019s AI-powered hiring tools discriminated against him and other applicants based on race, age, and disability.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Justice, along with California and other states, is <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-files-lawsuit-against-realpage-unlawfully-enabling\">suing RealPage<\/a>, alleging that its algorithmic pricing software enabled landlords to collude and inflate rents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe same things that happen when people are in charge are gonna happen when algorithms are in charge of filtering information. But if there aren\u2019t enough parameters and constraints, then we\u2019re gonna be rolling back the time back to when we didn\u2019t have the kind of civil rights protections we have now,\u201d Dharap said.<\/p>\n<p>Without more details from Waymo or Alphabet, it\u2019s unclear how they are verifying customers\u2019 identities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fairness, I don\u2019t know what Waymo is doing to verify identity,\u201d wrote Hany Farid of UC Berkeley\u2019s School of Information. \u201cBut if it is only doing a simplistic name matching, this is inexcusable because we now have fairly good technology to verify identity that is light years ahead of a simplistic (and lazy) name matching.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.kqed.org\/news\/2025\/11\/05\/waymo-alphabet-sued-for-bias-after-ai-allegedly-mislabels-sf-doctor-as-terrorist\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Companies in numerous industries are facing lawsuits seeking to establish their liability for discrimination involving artificial intelligence.
