Gebbia announced in February that he had joined the DOGE team led by Elon Musk that advocated for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqed.org\/news\/12038026\/san-francisco-santa-clara-counties-sue-trump-over-mass-doge-led-firings\">mass firings of federal employees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Airbnb said Gebbia left his operating role at the company in 2022, but he remains on the company\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12059163\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 2000px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12059163\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.kqed.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/10\/AirbnbSFKQED.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.kqed.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/10\/AirbnbSFKQED.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/cdn.kqed.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/10\/AirbnbSFKQED-160x120.jpg 160w, https:\/\/cdn.kqed.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/10\/AirbnbSFKQED-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Activists, unions, advocacy groups and officials \u2014 including San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey \u2014 rallied on Oct. 8, 2025, calling for a boycott of Airbnb over its ties to President Donald Trump\u2019s anti-worker agenda, local business tax avoidance and its role in the housing crisis. <cite>(Juan Carlos Lara\/KQED)<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Airbnb declined to comment on its ongoing litigation against San Francisco, but in a statement, the company said it pays its taxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2024, the company contributed more than $3.8 billion in total tax revenue to the state alone,\u201d Airbnb wrote. \u201cWe will continue to work closely with local leaders to work towards the post-pandemic revitalization of the city we call home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the company\u2019s lawsuit, the tax error stems from city officials misclassifying the type of business Airbnb is.
