Dakota Mayi Johnson <\/strong>was born Oct. 4, 1989.<\/p>\n And she\u2019s been rolling with that Hollywood life ever since, making her movie debut in 1999\u2019s Crazy in Alabama<\/em> (starring her mom and directed by her then-stepdad Antonio Banderas<\/strong>) before building up steam under her own name with the Fifty Shades<\/em> saga, A Bigger Splash<\/em>, How to Be Single<\/em>, Suspiria <\/em>and Madam Web<\/em>.<\/p>\n She has said that she finds the nepo baby conversation \u201cincredibly annoying,\u201d mainly because going into one\u2019s family business is pretty commonplace.<\/p>\n \u201cI started auditioning,\u201d she recalled in 2025 to Materialists<\/em> costar Pedro Pascal<\/strong> for Elle<\/a><\/em>. There were dry spells and then, yes, “I\u2019d have to ask my parents for help,\u201d she shared. \u201cI\u2019m very grateful that I had parents that could help me and did help me. But it certainly was not fun. The auditioning process, as you know, is the f–king worst.\u201d<\/p>\n Melanie and Don divorced in 1996, but she remains close to them, her stepmom, her ex-stepdad and all of her half-siblings\u2014who are simply brothers and sisters to her, full stop.<\/p>\n \u201cI was raised by lots of people, my mom and my dad and then stepparents and nannies and tutors and friends and teachers and then friends\u2019 parents and boyfriends\u2019 parents,\u201d Dakota told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI wanted to learn from everybody. And I still am like that. I\u2019m grateful to my parents and my crazy life because the only reason I am the way I am is because of how I grew up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
