Last week, after writing about small pleasures<\/a>, I got a text from my friend Alex Ronan<\/a>. \u201cCame across this Donald Hall poem last week,\u201d she wrote. Since I know many of you love poetry, I thought I\u2019d share it here, too.<\/p>\n Summer Kitchen<\/strong> In June\u2019s high light she stood at the sink I watched her cooking, from my chair. \u201cIt\u2019s ready now. With a glass of wine,
And listened for the bobolink,
And crushed garlic in late sunshine.<\/p>\n
She pressed her lips
Together, reached for kitchenware,
And tasted sauce from her fingertips.<\/p>\n

We ate, and talked, and went to bed,
And slept. It was a miracle.<\/p>\n
