To enhance students’ research skills, academic literacy, and innovative thinking, and to cultivate talents with global perspectives and competitive edge, the “2024 High-level International Research and Exchange Program (HIREP),” organized by the HIREP Center, successfully launched on January 25 at Xiamen University Malaysia Campus.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, technology is at the forefront of development. As a result, the criteria for cultivating talent have shifted. No longer are we solely focused on traditional educational standards. Instead, there’s a growing emphasis on nurturing innovative thinkers with visionary insights through creative and research-driven approaches. Universities around the globe are beginning to prioritize research skills among applicants and students, viewing these abilities as markers of independent thought, problem-solving prowess, a knack for exploring uncharted territories, and the creation of new knowledge.

HIREP leverages cutting-edge disciplines, integrating high-quality global teaching resources to offer international research training and cultural exchange for current university students. It covers advanced courses in fields such as finance and economics, artificial intelligence and automation, human-computer interaction, international relations, literature, journalism and communication, and business management. By utilizing the PBL (Project-Based Learning) approach, the program encourages critical thinking, fosters teamwork, improves structured communication, and enhances interdisciplinary practical skills, while also equipping students with research paper writing capabilities and industry project experience.

HIREP designed and led by professors from top-ranked universities globally (QS Top 25) including Harvard University, the University of Chicago, University of California, Los Angeles, Imperial College London, National University of Singapore, and the University of Hong Kong, the program provides students with direct research mentorship. These professors actively guide students through specialized and high-value research projects. Additionally, students engage in immersive learning and cultural exchanges with peers from prestigious universities worldwide, broadening their international perspectives and enhancing their global competitiveness.

During their stay in Malaysia, students also explored local historical and cultural landmarks such as Masjid Putra, Royal Selangor, Batu Caves, and Merdeka Square. They experienced the unique Southeast Asian culture, gained insights into its rich history, and reflected on the significance of cultural integration and diversity.

Through this program, students acquired theoretical knowledge, laying a robust foundation for future innovative research. They also expanded their research approaches by combining theoretical studies with practical project work. As of now, all students who participated in this program have completed their courses and returned to their home countries. Meanwhile, preparations for the “2024 Summer High-level International Research and Exchange Program” are underway, set to officially launch soon.
